This is a Tunis sheep. This breed is one of the oldest in North America. These sheep are quite handsome with their tan heads and legs. The lambs are born all red or tan, and turn cream-colored by about six months of age, except for the head and legs. Their fleece is a medium wool perfect for spinning and knitting into sweaters, jackets, hats, mittens and socks. It has a 3-to-5 inch staple and blends nicely with other fibers including alpaca, creating yarns that are strong with good drape and stability. We shear all our own sheep, and have the wool processed at Fingerlakes Woolen Mill into roving for handspinners and felters. We also have roving processed from other breeds that we shear. We specialize in pure-bred, natural-color roving in the Frisky Lamb Fiber side of our farm business. We practice natural insemination on Frisky Lamb Farm. |
